Jamming

Jamming is something many people avoid because they think they aren't up to the challenge of playing with other musicians. In truth jamming is about everyone being challenged, that's why jamming is a great way to make improve your musical chops.

If you don't know of anyone who wants to jam put an ad in the local music store or music paper and you will find others who are looking to play with out the commitment of a band. If it's a new group pick a few songs to start with and then let everyone continue to bring in new songs as time goes on. Just playing freestyle or developing your own riffs can be fun to.

If you are feeling stale and really looking for a challenge pick a genre of music you don't usually play and jam with players who play this type of music regularly.  After a few weeks you will se you have expanded your skills to include this new genre.

The most important thing to remember is jamming is suppose to be fun. Laugh at your mistakes. Share your knowledge and make some new friends.
